Have you ever dreamed of spending long days out on the lake, making beautiful sculptures out of snow and ice? Looking for a new, inspiring artistic medium? Just want to get outside and have some fun with some friends? Snowbuddy’s Winter Festival (formerly Snowkings Winter Festival) is looking for you!

This is a call-out for all interested, artistic individuals, looking to try their hand at the art of snow carving.

The details: We are looking for entrants for the 1st Local only, Yellowknife Snow Carving Competition. You and your team (maximum of 4 total carvers per team), will brave the icy conditions on Yellowknife Bay, competing by carving a large block of formed snow (approximately 8’ x 8’ x 8’ cubes) into beautiful art. You can use any equipment and tools you feel might work and local carving experts will be available for guidance along the way. You will be given 5 hours a day from March 5-14, 2021 to create your masterpiece for entry, using only ice and snow as materials. Work as much or as little as you can to pull off your creation.

Prize money will be awarded for 1st thru 3rd place and we are able to offer a small participation honorarium to help cover some of your costs in entering.

All interested artists are asked to submit a brief proposal outlining their sculpture by 5:00PM, Sunday January 31st, 2021 and successful proposals will be selected and notified in the first week of February. Please also forward this email to any artistic friends of yours, we may have missed.

For further information, or to submit your proposal, please email: Yellowsnow@snowking.ca
