Andrea Bettger

Performer Category: Music Act

Andrea Bettger is a well-known performer in the Northwest Territories.  Her lifetime experiences as a player of classical, jazz, and fiddle, result in music that is an exciting fusion of these styles. Her original material is a musical narrative inspired by her life in the North.

She has performed and recorded with countless artists both in the North and across Canada, including the Jerry Cans, The Rheostatics, Wide Mouth Mason, and Jane Siberry.  Her music can be heard in many films and is often played on the radio.

Her musical efforts won her the honour of “Citizen of the Year” in Hay River, and she represented the North as a fiddler at “NorthernScene” at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Andrea has twice been an artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts. Her first all-original album got her a nomination for Instrumental Solo Artist of the Year by the Canadian Folk Music Awards and her band performed at the CFMA Awards Ceremony.  Her single “Yellow Snow” was nominated as Single of the Year by the CFMA.  Her music video, “Thin Ice” won the Music Video Award of Excellence at the NWT music awards.  Andrea was invited and competed at the Canadian Grand Masters in Winnipeg, and she was recently inducted into the Canadian Grand Masters Hall of Honour.  She was featured as a Northern artist by the National Arts Centre on the Canadian Road Trip website.  Andrea is currently working on her third album project.

Andrea is thrilled to take the stage at the Snowking’s XXX festival.  His Majesty, Anthony Foliot, was a great mentor to her in her early years of playing fiddle music in the NWT.
